Alma L. Van Ostrand (Valle Núñez )

Alma L. Valle Núñez Van Ostrand was born on October 24, 1964, in Mexico City, Mexico, to Francisco Javier Valle and María Guadalupe Núñez de Valle. From the beginning, Alma lived boldly curious, adventurous, and unafraid to go where life might lead.

She described herself as a “rebel without a cause” until the age of 19, when she encountered Jesus Christ and experienced a life-changing transformation. From that moment on, her story became one of grace, redemption, and unwavering faith.

Alma pursued a career in aviation, graduating from the International Civil Aviation Center as a certified Air Traffic Controller in ground, tower, approach, and area control. She served in this role for nearly ten years, a testament to her sharp intellect, discipline, and calm confidence in carrying great responsibility.

Her love for Christ compelled her far beyond professional success. Alma shared the gospel in hospitals, women’s jails, and small towns throughout Mexico. She also worked alongside missionaries, helping establish new churches and encouraging others to follow God’s call.

On March 15, 1989, Alma married Enoch A. Van Ostrand, in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico. In 1992, the couple moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where Alma would continue to pour her heart into family, faith, and community.

Her greatest pride and joy were her children daughter Corinne Arielle, born in 1993, and son Ian Sven, born in 1996. Alma loved fiercely and intentionally, cheering them on, praying over them, and encouraging them to live lives of courage, faith, and purpose.

Around 2002, Alma began teaching at Christian Center School, where she would leave an indelible mark for more than two decades. She taught Spanish to students from kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as math, and was known for her passion, high expectations, joyful spirit, and deep love for her students. Alma did not just teach subjects, she taught life, faith, culture, and courage. Beginning in 2004, Alma led numerous student mission and cultural trips to Spanish-speaking countries and cities, believing deeply in the power of experiential learning and global perspective. These trips included Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and U.S. educational trips to Washington D.C., New York, Pennsylvania, Boston, and Virginia, as well as Florida. These journeys reflected her heart for adventure, discipleship, and helping young people see God at work in the world.

In addition to her work in education, Alma served as an event and wedding coordinator from 2001 to 2025, bringing beauty, order, and joy to countless celebrations.

Alma loved being everywhere and anywhere: exploring, hiking, discovering, and traveling. She lived by the quote, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all,” and embraced the biblical concept of adventure rooted in faith and trust: trusting God to provide, to guide, to protect, to fulfill His promises, to call us to special tasks, and to remain faithful even when His plans seemed impossible or illogical.

Above all, Alma’s life was a testimony of perseverance and hope. She would often encourage others with these words: Fight the good fight, keep the faith, guard your heart, walk on the narrow path, persevere, and run your race. This is part of His Great Adventure.

Alma is survived by her parents, Francisco Javier Valle and María Guadalupe Núñez de Valle; her beloved husband, Enoch Van Ostrand; her cherished children, Corinne and Ian; her siblings, Cecilia Valle Núñez, Javier Valle Núñez, Joel Valle Núñez, and Victor Valle Núñez; and a wide community of family, students, colleagues, and friends whose lives were forever changed by her faith, honesty, passion, and love.

Her race was well run. Her faith was kept. And her adventure continues in the presence of her Savior.

Alma L. Valle Núñez Van Ostrand nació el 24 de octubre de 1964 en la Ciudad de México, México, hija de Francisco Javier Valle y María Guadalupe Núñez de Valle. Desde el principio, Alma vivió con una curiosidad audaz, espíritu aventurero y sin temor a seguir a donde la vida la llevara.

Alma siguió una carrera en la aviación y se graduó del Centro Internacional de Aviación Civil como Controladora de Tránsito Aéreo certificada en control de superficie, torre, aproximación y área. Sirvió en este cargo durante casi diez años, lo cual fue un reflejo de su agudo intelecto, disciplina y serenidad al asumir grandes responsabilidades.

Su amor por Cristo la llevó mucho más allá del éxito profesional. Alma compartió el evangelio en hospitales, cárceles de mujeres y pequeños pueblos de todo México. También trabajó junto a misioneros, ayudando a establecer nuevas iglesias y animando a otros a seguir el llamado de Dios.

El 15 de marzo de 1989, Alma contrajo matrimonio con Enoch A. Van Ostrand en León, Guanajuato, México. En 1992, la pareja se mudó a Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, donde Alma continuó entregando su corazón a su familia, su fe y su comunidad.

Su mayor orgullo y alegría fueron sus hijos: su hija Corinne Arielle, nacida en 1993, y su hijo Ian Sven, nacido en 1996. Alma amó de manera intensa e intencional, animándolos, orando por ellos y alentándolos a vivir vidas de valentía, fe y propósito.

Alrededor del año 2002, Alma comenzó a enseñar en Christian Center School, donde dejó una huella imborrable durante más de dos décadas. Enseñó español a estudiantes desde kínder hasta el grado 12, así como matemáticas, y era conocida por su pasión, sus altas expectativas, su espíritu alegre y su profundo amor por sus alumnos. Alma no solo enseñaba materias; enseñaba vida, fe, cultura y valentía. A partir de 2004, Alma lideró numerosos viajes misioneros y culturales con estudiantes a países y ciudades de habla hispana, creyendo profundamente en el poder del aprendizaje experiencial y la perspectiva global. Estos viajes incluyeron México, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, la República Dominicana y Ecuador, así como viajes educativos en los Estados Unidos a Washington D.C., Nueva York, Pensilvania, Boston, Virginia y Florida. Estas experiencias reflejaron su corazón aventurero, su discipulado y su deseo de ayudar a los jóvenes a ver a Dios obrando en el mundo.

Además de su labor en la educación, Alma sirvió como coordinadora de eventos y bodas desde 2001 hasta 2025, aportando belleza, orden y alegría a innumerables celebraciones.

A Alma le encantaba estar en todas partes y en cualquier lugar: explorar, caminar, descubrir y viajar. Vivía según la frase: “La vida es una aventura audaz o no es nada”, y abrazó el concepto bíblico de la aventura arraigada en la fe y la confianza: confiar en que Dios provee, guía, protege, cumple Sus promesas, nos llama a tareas especiales y permanece fiel incluso cuando Sus planes parecen imposibles o ilógicos.

Por encima de todo, la vida de Alma fue un testimonio de perseverancia y esperanza. Con frecuencia animaba a otros con estas palabras: Pelea la buena batalla, guarda la fe, cuida tu corazón, camina por el camino angosto, persevera y corre tu carrera. Esto es parte de Su Gran Aventura.

A Alma le sobreviven sus padres, Francisco Javier Valle y María Guadalupe Núñez de Valle; su amado esposo, Enoch Van Ostrand; sus queridos hijos, Corinne e Ian; sus hermanos, Cecilia Valle Núñez, Javier Valle Núñez, Joel Valle Núñez y Victor Valle Núñez; y una amplia comunidad de familiares, estudiantes, colegas y amigos cuyas vidas fueron transformadas para siempre por su fe, honestidad, pasión y amor.

Su carrera fue bien corrida. Su fe fue guardada. Y su aventura continúa en la presencia de su Salvador.

Greeting

On behalf of Enoch’s and Alma’s family, thank you for being here.

Alma finished her journey here on earth and went home to be with the Lord last Friday, December 19th. She was 61 years old.

Right up until the moment the Lord took her home, Alma remained steadfast in her faith and devotion to Christ, in her love and devotion to her natural family, and to her family in Christ.

Jesus’ words, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, are most appropriate with regard to Alma:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Purpose of Our Gathering

Our purpose in gathering here is two-fold:

• To reflect on Alma’s life and its impact on our lives

• To remind us that because of Jesus, we will see her again

Alma’s Life and Its Impact on Our Lives

1 Timothy 4:12
“Set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

Alma was an example and inspiration for all of us.

“Just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.”

Alma’s focus was on serving others.

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

The light of Alma’s life was not only an example to us and the world around her, but it also glorified God.

What Made Alma the Way She Was

It began with her dad and mom, who are here today, honoring their precious daughter.

Jesus said, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

Jesus began that good work in Alma’s life when He saved her and never stopped working in her life until the day He called her home.

En nombre de la familia de Enoch y Alma, gracias por estar aquí.

Alma terminó su jornada aquí en la tierra y fue a casa para estar con el Señor el viernes pasado, 19 de diciembre. Tenía 61 años.

Hasta el momento en que el Señor la llamó a casa, Alma permaneció firme en su fe y devoción a Cristo, en su amor y dedicación a su familia natural, y a su familia en Cristo.

Las palabras de Jesús, registradas en el Evangelio de Mateo, son muy apropiadas al hablar de Alma:

“Bien hecho, buen siervo y fiel.”

Propósito de Nuestra Reunión

Nuestro propósito al reunirnos hoy es doble:

• Reflexionar sobre la vida de Alma y su impacto en nuestras vidas

• Recordarnos que, gracias a Jesús, la volveremos a ver

Qué Hizo a Alma Ser Como Era

Todo comenzó con su papá y su mamá, quienes están aquí hoy, honrando a su preciosa hija.

Jesús comenzó esa buena obra en la vida de Alma cuando la salvó, y nunca dejó de obrar en ella hasta el día en que la llamó a casa.
