Christian Center School in Hayden, Idaho, successfully brought Shrek the Musical to life with four lively performances in mid-May 2026. The production featured a cast of more than 30 students and filled the stage with humor, heart, and memorable music.
A DreamWorks Classic Comes to the Stage
Senior Brandon Goold starred as Shrek, complete with green makeup, a bald cap, and a prosthetic nose. In a pre-show interview, Brandon shared that this was his first lead role. He described the experience as both nerve-wracking and exciting, noting how much he enjoyed bringing the grumpy yet lovable ogre to life.
Junior Abby Marshall played Donkey, delivering energy, comic relief, and a wholesome touch to the character. The large ensemble also included many beloved fairy tale characters — Pinocchio, the Gingerbread Man, the Three Little Pigs, and others — who invade Shrek’s swamp after being banished by Lord Farquaad.
Based on the 2001 DreamWorks film and William Steig’s book, the musical (with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori) combined upbeat dance numbers, catchy songs, and plenty of laughs while delivering its timeless message: true beauty comes from within.
Community Support and Highlights
Choreographer Holly Larson praised the students’ hard work and the way the entire school community rallied together with costumes, sets, lighting, props, and support. Several seniors, including Brandon, used the show as a meaningful finale to their K-12 journey at Christian Center School.
The performances took place on May 8 and May 10, 2026, entertaining families, friends, and community members.
More Than Just Entertainment
Productions like Shrek the Musical at Christian Center School help students grow in confidence, teamwork, creativity, and character — values that align perfectly with the school’s mission.
A huge congratulations to the entire cast, crew, directors, choreographers, and everyone who made this production a success!
