Chapel and Buddies
Every Wednesday morning, CCS pauses the usual class schedule to come together for worship, announcements, and a message or buddy activity. Addy Turner, CCS’s Music teacher, directs the student-led Worship Band, which meets every morning for 30 minutes before the start of the school day. These talented musicians commit to a semester of service in the band, and this group is known for writing original songs and forming a tight bond.
For upper school sessions, the principal, Annie Marshall, along with local pastors and CCS teachers, are the usual Chapel speakers, bringing relevant messages to stir the faith of students. Once a month, Discipleship Groups are held, where parents and teachers lead small groups of students on a more intimate level. These groups are known to connect outside of this designated time and, on occasion, enjoy off-campus meetings. There is also Buddy Chapel, which is a small, diverse group of about five students led by the oldest buddy. These buddy groups enable students, who would otherwise be unknown to each other, to establish relationships through conversation and activities. Small group dynamics foster the warm family atmosphere that makes CCS unique.
Elementary Chapel occurs during upper school’s Discipleship Groups, where younger students come together for a message from the Vice Principal, Teresa Sacksteader, tailored to their interests and age.
