High School Retreat 2025 (recap)

Two weeks after the new school year begins, high school students retreat from regular classes for nearly 48 hours to the serene shores of Camp Mivoden on Hayden Lake. This tradition has become a rite of passage for incoming freshmen and a highly anticipated event for returning high schoolers. Students experience zany group games coordinated by the ASB, refreshing water activities, lively worship sessions, and powerful messages from guest speakers. They also enjoy delicious food, comfortable cabins, and an informal dance where many cut loose to show off their moves, all of which is chaperoned by numerous parents and teachers.

Before the retreat last year, senior Ily Putren said, “I am excited for the team games and the swing dance. I like both of these things because it helps introduce new students and even [engage] the ones that have been here before in a super fun and interactive way.” After this year’s retreat, junior Gavin Riley said, “Derek Sovereign taught students about spiritual gifts and how they can use them. Students looked deeper into their relationship with God [with a better understanding] that we are called to use our gifts for the kingdom of God.”

The high school retreat is not only an opportunity to escape the usual rhythms of the school day to make lifelong memories, but also to connect with peers and staff members in ways that would not be possible otherwise.
